Since we first reported in 2007, he has gained more experience than most world class alpinists get in a decade. Within months he established himself as a full scale alpinist.
Now he is preparing for Sichuan, China.
Kristoffer Szilas wants to climb a mountain called Ren Zhong Feng in alpine style together with Martin Ploug and Carsten Jensen, all from Denmark.
After several visits Mick Fowler have been promoting the countless peaks in this area, most (or at least numerous) of which have not even been approached by climbers,
This particular one was reported by Tamotsu "Tom" Nakamura as having a "very easy" access - a one day drive (maybe 400 km) from Chengdu (with a population of 11 million).
The Alpine Briefs published another report by Nakamura, with photos and maps.
With an altitude of 6079 unknown meters, some endurance might come in handy.
"Training is going well and I'm in pretty decent shape by now, from drytooling at Hans Tavsens Park and from running up the 16 floors at the local hospital", says Kristoffer Szilas in his blog.
Everything just seems to fall into place for this 26-year-old, although together with Jim Broomhead he also experienced unexpected challenges. Dropping the last can of gas may be annoying on many routes. On Cholatse it proved terrifying.
"For a moment we thought about continuing without, but we expected three or four more days on the route so it was out of the question. We had to descent."
"I was really concerned because I had noticed how difficult it was to find protection and considered it a one-way trip. I was terrified with the thought of having to abseil over this steep and difficult ground, but there was no alternative. We sat down and waited for dawn."
"I probabably had two hours of sleep that night, no so much because of the biting cold but mostly because of the though of the next day. We had a beautiful view over a cloud covered valley and could so Lhotse and Everest as the sun set, but we were not in the mood to enjoy it. All night there was spindrift and falling stones hissed close by, once hitting our packs."
Today Millet and DMM wants to be associated with Kristoffer Szilas commitment, potential and phenomenal hit ratio. Still he don't seem to let the attention affect his humble attitude.
"Every time they send me equipment it's like X-mas", he says.
