Kristoffer Szilas, 24, climbed Pink Panther M9+ in Ueschinen, Kandersteg, on February 1. // Movie from this ascent. // Please explain the comments by your Danish friends. – Well, sørøverleg means pirates game; maybe since there is a lot of swinging around with the tools.
– The plan was to return to Rjukan now to repeat Fission without heel-spurs. But conditions are too poor. The pond underneath the cave isn’t even frozen. My goal is M10 without spurs. M10 with spurs is more like M7/A0 to me. The Swiss trip also included the Ice World Cup in Saas Fee, February 3. – Evgeny Kryvosheytsev made a big impression on me. The Ukrainian won in Saas Fee, and in Ouray. Would you take part yourself?
You’ve been climbing since age 16, but only recently picked up dry-tooling? – It looked cool to me. I started ice climbing four years ago during a two-month backcountry touring guide education in Norway arranged by the Danish climbing federation. I’ve been several times to Chamonix, but only for a fortnight. In two years, I hope to be able to go to Patagonia to climb something like the Supercolouir on Fitzroy or Compressor Route on Cerro Torre. And you will prepare yourself in Copenhagen? – Well, there is a gym with some bouldering. I’ve been to Rjukan four times, and to my home crag Kullaberg some 30 times. Are there any more mixed climbers from Denmark? – Kasper Berkowicz, Allan Christensen, Mads Granlien... Kristoffer Szilas is a master student in geology. – I would like to continue with a PhD after graduating next year. Or maybe I’ll work in the Danish mine on Greenland. With geology? – No, we do access jobs; climbing with fixed ropes. Text: David Hässler
